Shiva
Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra
A verse of the Rigveda (7.59.12) addressed to Tryambaka, the three eyed lord, understood as Shiva. It asks to be freed from the bonds of death as a ripe cucumber is freed from its stalk, yet not from immortality. The prefix Om is added in common recitation. It is chanted for health, protection and long life, especially on Mondays and during illness.
This recording repeats the mantra many times, as in japa, so it is longer than one recitation.
Played from the artist's or label's own YouTube channel. Recordings often sing extra verses or a slightly different wording from the text shown here.
