Calculating…
Pravishte (also called Gate) counts the days the Sun has spent in its current sign, with the day it entered as day 1. The Sun stays in each sign about 30 days, so the count runs from 1 to about 30 or 31 and starts again at the next Sankranti. Solar calendars such as those of Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Odisha begin each month on the Sankranti and use this count for the date. It does not decide an auspicious time by itself.
